Main post offices may be hit by a Communications Workers’ Union strike from 2.30pm on Friday.
The union is calling out members at the country’s 373 Crown Post Offices, which include the main offices in Bury St Edmunds, Thetford and Newmarket. Sub Post Offices are not affected.
CWU opposes Post Office plans to close or franchise 76 Crown offices. It also wants to negotiate ‘a fair pay rise’ for staff who have had no increase since April 2011.
The Post Office says the union is ‘in denial of commercial realities faced by Post Office’ and that the pay claim is unreasonable.
Both say they are protecting jobs and services.
