THERE were celebrations at the Morrisons building site in Hampden Park last week as the highest part of the structure went up.

Local dignitaries donned their hard hats and attended the topping out ceremony.

Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd and the council’s chief executive Robert Cottrill were among those to sign the final steel beam.

It was then hoisted 35 feet to complete the roof structure of the supermarket.

Mr Lloyd said, “This is another big day in what is another big development for Eastbourne.

“It’s amazing how fast Morrisons is creating this new store.

“And I know they are working very hard to recruit up to 300 staff locally, which is great news for the town.”
