AN Eastbourne care assistant has been honoured at the Southern Business awards.

Norma Wood, who works as manager at Dorley House for St Michael’s Care Homes, won the best employee award at the prestigious event.

Norma has worked at the residential dementia care home for more than 20 years where she is enormously respected by residents, staff and relatives.

The awards ceremony, held at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel, was told how there has been a lot in the press lately about the mistreatment of old people in hospitals and care homes. However, in a testimony to Norma, guests were told: “Our charity today is concerned with the well-being of older people. Norma makes all those who live at Dorley House feel like one big family. She is confident, relaxed, fiercely efficient, and the most compassionate woman one could wish to meet.”

The Southern Business Awards was organised by JP South Events and Sussex Newspapers, recognising winners from all of the company’s business awards events staged over the past 12 months.

A number of categories were represented and which were sponsored by key organisations, including the Federation of Small Businesses which sponsored the Start-up category and the Eastbourne Enterprise Centre which sponsored the retailer of the year award.
