BREAKING NEWS: Shock as Arndale bosses threaten to “pull out”

DEVELOPERS behind the £70 million Arndale Centre extension this week threatened to scrap the plans if a new shopping complex at Sovereign Harbour goes ahead.

Legal and General, which owns the centre and is hoping its town centre refurbishment will get the green light later this year, told Eastbourne Borough Council planners on Tuesday night it would “pull out” if the multi million facelift at the harbour was given permission.

The row centres on Legal and General trying to impose conditions which would restrict fashion, sportswear and other popular stores from opening at the Harbour.

L&G head Simon Russian said the Harbour plans would have a “significant adverse impact” on planned investment in the town centre and predicted it “would not go forward”.

• What do you think? Should it be a choice between the two? Can Eastbourne sustain two major shopping outlets? If you have to choose one, which would it be?
