Two Eastbourne business champions joined MP hopeful Caroline Ansell at 11 Downing Street for a special event.
Christina Ewbank, Chamber of Commerce CEO and Town Centre Manager and Darren Weir, Chairman of Eastbourne Hospitality Association, joined Caroline to meet George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer.
The event, on February 11, was to recognise and celebrate the central role small businesses play in the fortunes of the economy.
“The No. 11 Reception was a great opportunity to meet with businesses across the South East and beyond and it was inspiring to hear their success stories,” said Caroline. “George asked us about the Pier – his visit to Eastbourne last summer had clearly left a deep impression – and he looked suitably impressed with just how far we’ve come!”
Christina Ewbank said, “It was an honour to be invited to no.11 Downing Street to meet George Osborne and his team. SMEs are incredibly important to our local and national economy and it is great to know that their importance is recognised. The reception was most enjoyable and it was a great opportunity to network with other business people.”
Darren Weir said, “It was a great opportunity for me to meet the chancellor briefly and remind him of the “Cut VAT Tourism Campaign” which is so pressing for the hospitality industry”.
