BREAKING NEWS: Teenager dies after being hit by a car in Eastbourne

A Belgian student has died after being hit by a car in Eastbourne.

The girl, a 16-year-old pedestrian, sustained fatal injuries in the incident involving a grey Hyundai i800 in Susans Road at 11.03pm last night (Wednesday, August 12).

She was treated by paramedics at the scene, near the junction with Pevensey Road, and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where she sadly died a short while later.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have seen the Hyundai in the area in the time leading up to it to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 quoting Operation Coat.

The driver of the car, a 45-year-old man from Bexhill-on-Sea, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remained in custody on Thursday morning.
