A SCHOOL walking bus has been stopped in its tracks because of cutbacks.

Travel Plan Advisers which help operate the walking bus to Hawkes Farm School in Hailsham has had support from East Sussex County Council stopped because of cuts to funding.

The council says it can no longer provide practical support, insurance cover or risk assessments.

Supporter Jenny Seale said, “The service has allowed parents to drop children early and well away from the school and Hawks Road thereby easing congestion outside the school and allowing parents to get to work avoiding of the usual school run panic. It is sad therefore that in this day and age when the ‘green’ option is encouraged and applauded, that the local authority is no longer able to help.”

Jenny is appealing any organisations who can help sponsor the walking bus group to contact her on 440567.
