A TUG of war took place between local boxers and rugby players.

Held as part of Eastbourne Real Ale and Arts Festival at the Crown and Anchor over the weekend, the light-hearted bout was held on the beach – with a bucket collection for Eastbourne’s new lifeboat appeal.

Fielding a distinctly light-weight albeit energetic team the boxers, from the local university, were overwhelmed by their heavier opponents from the campus rugby squad.

A final total has not yet been counted up, but the RNLI said it was grateful of the support as it tries to raise £700,000 to pay for a new boat.
