CYCLISTS are gearing up for the first Bourne 2 Bike event in aid of Eastbourne based charity
the Arthritic Association.
Riders will tackle one of four routes across the East Sussex countryside depending on their fitness and ability. There is also a special circuit for the under 12s at the Eastbourne Sports Park.
At the heart of the event is the Cuckoo Trail, the former railway line which recently saw the replacement of a 1.5km section of sewer which had collapsed and been the subject of a number of bursts.
Senior public relations manager for Southern Water, Beverley Thompson said, “We are very pleased that we were able to finish work on the Cuckoo Trail in time for Bourne 2 Bike on Sunday October 2.
“We hope the cyclists enjoy the event and wish the organisers good luck with what is planned to become an annual event.”
Lynda Scott Williams, chief executive of the Arthritic Association, said, “We are extremely grateful to Southern Water for all their support. The numbers for the event are looking good, but we can still accept more now – or on the day. It should be a fantastic day out in some stunning countryside and will help us raise awareness of arthritis.”
Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd will officially start the event at the Eastbourne Sports Park at 9.30am.
