Eastbourne Borough made a shock exit from the FA Trophy after going down 1-0 in the first round at Swindon Supermarine tonight.
It was all square after an opening half of few chances, although the hosts, who are flying high in the British Gas Southern Premier League, certainly edged the opening 20 minutes.
But Garry Wilson's men missed a great chance to take the lead in the 41st minute.
They were awarded a penalty after Ashley Barnes was tripped in the area, but the Plymouth loanee's weak spot kick was comfortably saved by the keeper.
The hosts were fortunate not to find themselves down to 10 men when a bad challenge by Kyle Lapham left Matt Crabb needing several minutes' treatment. But Lapham was shown only a yellow card.
Borough did get the ball into the net when Simon Wormull's free-kick was headed on by Ben Austin and Barnes' header was on target, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
It continued to be far from easy for the Blue Square Premier side as the second half got under way and in the 73rd minute Borough fell behind.
A long throw was flicked on and finally tucked in from close range by Ashley Edenborough.
After the goal, Borough made a double substitution with Bournemouth loanee Jeff Goulding at last making a first appearance when he replaced Jay Lovett. Matt Smart came on for Wormull.
But try as they did, the visitors failed to create any real clearcut chances and when the final whistle went, it was the Wiltshire side who were looking forward to a trip to Uxbridge in the New Year.
