A massage therapy service for patients with cancer has received a boost from two local fundraisers, Judy Hughes and Hazel Kernott.

The pair has raised £1,957 for the massage therapy service by holding a fancy dress disco at Langney Sports Club.

The massage therapy service for patients with cancer is available for patients attending the oncology clinic on Tuesdays.

It helps to reduce stress and anxiety before or after the patient’s appointment with the doctor.

Dr Fiona McKinna, Lead Consultant Clinical Oncologist said, “We are extremely grateful to Judy and Hazel for raising the money for this service.

“We hold a clinic once a week where cancer patients attending can, if they choose, receive some massage therapy.

“It helps to relieve stress and anxiety and generally makes the patients feel good and improve their
mood.

“Massage for people with cancer has been shown to be a natural way to help patients relax and cope with the understandable stress and anxiety of attending an oncology clinic.”

Hazel Knight said, “Judy and I would like to thank all those who supported our event and donated money as well as the generous boost our funds received from Barclays Bank.

“This massage therapy really gives instant hands on help to cancer patients.”

This donation was facilitated by the Friends of Eastbourne Hospitals.
