STAFF at the Redoubt Fortress are getting ready to join in with a one million book giveaway as part of World Book Night on Saturday.

The Napoleonic Fortress on Eastbourne seafront has been chosen as one of 20,000 giveaway centres and will distribute 48 copies of Erich Maria Remarque’s All Quiet on the Western Front, on Saturday.

The novel tells the story of a young unknown soldier experiencing the horror and disillusionment of life in the trenches, appropriately picked to give away by the Redoubt, which is home to an impressive military museum showing artefacts dating back 200 years.

The first readers to turn up at the Redoubt’s gate, off Royal Parade, on Saturday evening between 5pm and 6pm will get their hands on a free copy.

World Book Night, an initiative to celebrate adult books and reading, takes place two days after World Book Day.
