FIREFIGHTERS have launched a campaign to raise cash for two charities - one for Firefighters and the other children’s cancer charity Clic Sargent.

On May 26 next year, a team of 15 Green Watch firefighters, with a support team, will set off on scooters for a 1,000-mile journey in bright yellow fire kit.

When the cheques are presented on July 15 at Eastbourne Borough FC, the firefighters will be joining in a football match against an Arsenal team.

And in the evening Eastbourne band Toploader will perform at the Mansion Hotel, along with a disco, auction and buffet.

So far, an impressive £1,857.95 has been raised thanks to generous Eastbourne residents.

Little Kieren Browning, who was given nine months to live two years ago after being diagnosed with cancer, joined the firefighters at the fundraising launch, along with mum and dad Vickie and Nick.

A firefighter spokesperson said, “It was a pleasure for us all to have them with us for our big Blazing Saddles fundraising launch.”

If you’d like to donate money, cheques should be made payable to Blazing Saddles Charity Fundraising and sent to Eastbourne Fire Station, Whitley Road, Eastbourne, East Sussex, BN22 8LA.
