Big band sound swinging back

THE BIG band sound is swinging back into town as Swing Session 7 returns to the Congress Theatre on June 28 (7.30pm).

Featuring music of the 1940's and 50's, with special guest appearances from Sheila Tracy, Tony Jacobs, Jacquie Toye and making their Swing Session debut, the Swingtime Sweethearts.

Swing Session celebrates seven years of bringing the best of the big band sound to Eastbourne. Seventeen of London's top musicians get together under the leadership of Paul Davis to play classics by Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Count Basie.

With a special tribute to Britain's greatest bandleader, Ted Heath, featuring musicians from his original orchestra Ronnie Hughes and Don Rendell.

Sheila Tracy will return to make a guest appearance on the evening, Big Band aficionado Sheila hosted the BBC Radio Big Band Special for over 20 years and continues to work worldwide.

Sheila was the first woman to read the news on BBC Radio 4, she is a talented musician in her own right, and has played trombone with Paul Davis many times.

Jacquie Toye has performed all over the world, including two years as the infamous Velma Kelly in Chicago in the West End.

Tony Jacobs also returns, a resident vocalist with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, completing the line-up are the Swingtime Sweethearts

• Tickets cost from 312.50-14, call 412000.
