Big event was inspired by 2012 Olympics

The second annual Eastbourne Sports Festival was a massive hit as hundreds of children tried different sports and activities for charity.

Inspired by last year’s London Olympics, the festival provided an opportunity for people to try a variety of sports over the weekend, across seven different venues in Eastbourne, whilst donating money for the NSPCC. Each person who participated donated £1 per session and there was no limit on the number of sports they could try. Last year £1,331 was raised and the NSPCC are hopeful for even more this year.

Eastbourne Fencing Club expected around 40 participants who had never experienced fencing before. The sessions were held at Eastbourne Sports Park.

Over at Hampden Park Sports Centre staff were overrun with people attending and sports ranged from boxing to cheerleading.

The festival ran over the bank holiday weekend (May 25-26) and is hoped to become a permanent fixture in Eastbourne’s sporting calendar.
