Big Band Sound concerts at Eastbourne’s spectacular bandstand will bring jazz and swing music to the seafront from Thursday June 25.

Every Thursday there will be performances from groups such as The Central Band of the Royal British Legion, The Swingshift Big Band and The Johnny Spice Swing Orchestra.

The regular slot will offer up a dose of nostalgia from local big bands and military bands.

Eastbourne Borough Council lead cabinet member for culture, tourism and enterprise, Margaret Bannister, said: “With ‘Big Band Sound’ concerts on Thursday nights added to the mix, the Bandstand is almost at peak season and we’re proud to have a summer programme that caters to so many different tastes.

“Big Band Sound nights take audiences on a nostalgic journey and they always get concert-goers on their feet and dancing to the upbeat sounds of this memorable music era.”

A lively performance from The Johnny Spice Swing Orchestra will be the first of 12 Big Band Sound concerts this year on Thursday June 25.

Visitors will be able to dance to the sounds of jazz and jive in a feel-good concert to kick-off Big Band Season.

But don’t worry if you miss out because the Johnny Spice band will return to the Thursday night slot three more times this summer.

New to Eastbourne’s Bandstand programme in 2015 is The Brighton Big Band, a well-established ensemble whose jazz music is accompanied by vocalists Jackie Sampson, Jo Kimber and Pam Dabell.

The Brighton Big Band will bring lively jazz and swing to Eastbourne on July 6 and again on August 13, on the first day of the popular and free international air show, Airbourne.

Meanwhile the The Swingshift Big Band will make a welcome return to the Eastbourne Bandstand.

They will perform five Thursday night concerts this summer and will close the Big Band Sound season on September 10.

The large Uckfield band was formed in 2007 by professional musician Jonathan Bailey.

With arrangements based on well-known standards, accompanied by vocals from talented singer Aprile Biggs, the Swingshift Big Band will not disappoint swing fans.

The Central Band of the Royal British Legion is a military ensemble made up of both civilian and ex-forces musicians, amateurs and professionals.

They will perform a Big Band Sound concert on Thursday August 6, during Royal British Legion Week between August 3 and 9.

The acclaimed military band has played at the Royal Albert Hall, the Championship Finals at Wimbledon, Westminster Abbey and London’s Guildhall.

Doors and bar open at 7.30pm for all Big Band Sound nights for an 8pm concert start, with concerts finishing at approximately 9.30pm.

Tickets online at www.EastbourneBandstand.co.uk, or by calling the Eastbourne Seafront Office on 01323 410611. The Seafront Office is open daily from 10am-6pm May to September and until 9pm on concert nights.
