CHURCH bells rang out over Eastbourne on Monday (April 5) for the funeral of a soldier who died in Afghanistan.

Private Daniel Prior was serving in the 2nd Battalion of the Parachute Regiment and died from the injuries he sustained during a bomb blast in Helmand province. The 27-year-old, who had recently become a father to baby son Logan, died on March 18 and his funeral was held at St Saviour’s Church in South Street, Eastbourne. Private Prior was born in Brighton and lived in Peacehaven before moving to Colchester with his wife Emily.

The funeral was held in Eastbourne because Private Prior’s parents, Ian and Gillian, live in the town.

Father Ian said he was proud of the work his son had carried out in Afghanistan and described him as ‘selfless’ with an ‘infectious humour’.
