THE BOMBER Command Memorial at Beachy Head will be officially unveiled on Sunday (July 8).
The Queen’s representative in Sussex. the Lord Lieutenant Peter Field will unveil the granite memorial at 2pm.
The six-tonne memorial to the men who died serving with Bomber Command during World War II was airlifted to Beachy Head by an RAF Chinook helicopter last week.
It has been installed on the headland, which would have been one of the last sights many airmen saw as they flew out over East Sussex.
The memorial project was organised by 90-year-old Joseph Williams, a gunner on a Lancaster bomber which was shot down.
Mr Williams is hoping veterans will attend the unveiling and dedication, after which a reception will be held at the RAFA Club in Wish Road for invited guests only.
