Beachy Head body believed to be missing Hampshire man

POLICE believe the body of a man who went missing from his Hampshire home and was last seen on CCTV at Eastbourne railway station has been found at Beachy Head.

Alastair Smith, 54, never returned to his Basingstoke home after work on Friday, March 2.

He was last seen on CCTV later that day at the railway station.

A body, believed to be that of Mr Smith, pictured, was found below the cliffs at Beachy Head on Tuesday, March 6.

Mr Smith’s family has been informed. A formal identification is yet to take place.

The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and a file will be passed to the coroner.
