Owners of an Eastbourne seafront cafe want to extend the timber decking area on to the beach.

Cafe Express and Belissimo Express cafes operate from two refurbished seafront shelters between the pier and Bandstand on the lower promenade of Grand Parade opposite Terminus Road and a plan is in the pipeline to extend the decked area.

The plans have been submitted to Eastbourne Borough Council and will be decided by town planners after the May 7 elections.

The additional decking area will provide seats for an extra 60 to 80 people, new jobs will be created and opening hours will be 8am-11pm in the summer and 8am- 5pm in the winter.

A spokesperson for the cafe owners said, “It is proposed to extend the decking area seawards at the west cafe in line with the decking at the east cafe.

“The decking will also be extended to cover the beach area between the two cafes creating one large seating area on the beach.

“Although by extending the decking area the cafes will be joined, it is proposed the two will concentrate on different foods with the east cafe selling Italian based food, coffees and ice cream with the west selling sandwiches and pastries.”

“The idea is to create a family-friendly stylish relaxed modern eating and drinking experience on the beach.”
