Arrest made following armed robbery at Hampden Park post office

A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a post office in Hampden Park.

Emergency services raced to the business in Rosebery Avenue on Tuesday April 30 at around 8.30am and police searched the area after reporting that a man dressed in a postman’s uniform threatened a female staff member with a gun.

He is said to have then stole a quantity of cash from the safe before setting fire to the building.

The woman was able to raise the alarm and get out and was taken to the DGH.

Police said a 32-year-old had been questioned in connection with the robbery and released on bail until June 17 while investigations continue.

Detective Inspector Mark O’Brien said, “We still need to hear from witnesses and anyone who may have information about this.

“We are particularly interested in any film footage or stills people may have taken of the incident on their mobile phones.”

Anyone with information should contact Sussex Police on 101 quoting Operation Condor.
