Eastbourne Arndale Centre owners Legal & General have announced they will be main sponsor of the Eastbourne Sunshine Carnival 2013.

The event will be held on Saturday May 25 from 4pm. More than 25,000 spectators are expected to cheer the 50 plus floats and 1,500 walkers along the seafront.

Eastbourne Arndale Centre manager Bill Plumridge said, “It was great to see the Carnival return to Eastbourne last year after a 15 year break and we are delighted to play a part in the second event, which looks set to be another huge success.”

“The carnival has built up a significant following. It’s a great way to bring the whole community together to celebrate the best that our fantastic town has to offer.”

Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd, who led the campaign to bring back the carnival and secured the sponsorship, said, “We are absolutely thrilled that Legal & General will be our main sponsor for this year’s carnival. It’s excellent news that we have their support for such a key event for Eastbourne that promises to be even bigger and better than last year.”

Pageant Master David Cooper who organises the seafront procession said, “The entrants are coming thick and fast and with the funding secured, I just know it’s going to be another superb event.”

The theme for this year’s carnival is Sussex by the Sea and the route will start at Princes Park and finish at the Western Lawns. Anyone who would like to enter the carnival, or volunteer to be a steward should visit www.eastbournecarnival.co.uk

Last year thousands of pounds were raised for charities from donations from people who lined the route of the procession.

Legal & General is planning to extend the Arndale Centre with a £70 million scheme that will bring up to 22 new ground and first floor units and parking spaces to the town.
