An apprentice working for an Eastbourne company was shortlisted for a national award.
Liam Martin, who has been based at Upfields Plumbing & Heating in Willowfield Road for six years, was nominated for the accolade and was whittled down to the final five.
The 25-year-old was nominated for the higher level apprenticeship for construction in a built environment at a local level and won that award and was then put forward at a national level.
Despite not being picked as the winner at a ceremony in London last month Liam’s boss Malcolm Upfield is proud of his achievements.
He said it was ‘brilliant’ the Hastings resident had been shortlisted.
He added, “As a company we have used apprentices for about 20 years now.
“A lot of apprentices are put through plumbing apprenticeships and are still working for us now and running contracts which is a great credit to the younger generation.”
Liam, who is studying a HNC and a HND course in the building environment at Highbury College in Portsmouth, said he was inspired to study in the field because his father was a builder when he was younger.
His dream is to become a fully qualified surveyor.
