A fundraising appeal has been launched to help care for a rescue dog coming to Eastbourne from Turkey.

Dylan, a cross between a corgi and a labrador, was destined for the local shelter in the fishing village of Kalkan when he was given a last minute reprieve by an Eastbourne woman.

Now, the family and KAPSA, a local charity which looks after street dogs and run by Turkish and English dog lovers who care for sick, homeless and injured animals, is appealing for money to pay to get Dylan to the UK.

Lee said, “Kalkan a beautiful fishing village in Turkey where tourists flock , not only for the sun, sea, views and food but to visit the wonderful street dogs that roam amongst the locals and its visitors.

“Year after year people return and a joy is to see their favourite dog sitting at the roadside.

“In January of this year, four of the Kalkan dogs were taken from the street reportedly for barking. The council takes complaints seriously and these poor dogs were destined for the local dog shelter but with more than 400 there, they are sent without hope of ever getting out.

“Dylan was one of the four given a reprieve by a local English lady on the understanding that he would find a home. Dylan is adorable, a corgi lab type little boy with Queen Ann legs and a charming character.

“Ads were placed and hearts were tugged, however Dylan was running out of time. Just 24 hours before he was due to go to the shelter, a home was found in good old Eastbourne and with a local lady with two rather cute dogs of her own.

“It will cost in the region of £1,500 and this includes Dylan’s lodgings while in Turkey, his flight to England and his vet fees. Without this money Dylan can’t come and without a home he will for sure be put into the shelter.

“The lovely people of Kalkan and its enthusiastic following of English fans have raised some funds but as always we need more.
