An annual remembrance concert which was facing the axe has been saved for a second year running.
Because of rising costs and dwindling attendance in recent years, the Eastbourne Annual Remembrance Concert was almost discontinued last year.
The Eastbourne Silver Band helped out in 2012 after its members decided such an important event should now be allowed to pass unacknowledged and has agreed to do the same this year.
The concert will be held on Sunday November 3 at Out Lady of Ransom Church in Grange Road at 2.30pm.
Keith Marshall from Eastbourne Silver Band said, “In 2011 it was agreed an attempt should be made to present a concert so the residents of Eastbourne might continue to have the opportunity of paying their respects and remembering those men and women that have given so much over the years.
“The first concert last year proved successful to the point that a further concert has now been planned for this year and will be held in the presence of the Lord Lieutenant of Sussex along with invited guests and members of the public.
“This year, along with the standards of HM Forces, an invitation is being extended to the Emergency Services and organisations that played their part in Eastbourne both during the last World War and during the intervening years.”
