A bus stop will be moved from Eastbourne’s Diesel Alley this week as contractors move in to start redeveloping the Arndale Centre.

Stagecoach says that from Wednesday (July 15) because of building work starting, Stand E will move around the corner to Cornfield Road outside the old Santander bank.

Kier Construction has been appointed the contractors for the first phase of the Arndale Centre redevelopment which is upgrading the entrances to the shopping complex close to Banker’s Corner.

For the first few weeks, the project will be carried out overnight so that scaffolding can be erected with the minimal amount of disruption. A temporary entrance through the adjacent shop unit will be put in place for the majority of the work but access to the centre will be maintained throughout the period and it will be business as usual for shops.

A holding bay for deliveries and the removal of demolition material will be set up in Terminus Road which has resulted in a few minor changes to bus stops, which have been agreed with East Sussex County Council and the bus operators.

It means bus passengers using the 56, 99 and 99A services will have to use the new bus stop in Cornfield Road.

A spokesperson at Stagecoach said, “From Wednesday the Arndale development will be starting and this will be by the main entrance. “There will be a lot of vehicles delivering scaffold etc and there will be a crane in location throughout these works.

“Due to this and the limited space that we have, stand E will now be moved into Cornfield Road outside the old Santander bank .

“Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
