A man was stabbed in the town centre last night (Wednesday).

The incident unfolded in Elms Avenue near the junction with Seaside Road at around 6.55pm.

Officers were called after a witness saw three men fighting.

The group quickly dispersed but police found the suspect nearby.

The victim, a 27-year-old from Eastbourne, was found outside an address in Willowfield Road at around 8.30pm.

The air ambulance was called and landed in Seaside Rec.

Sussex Police said the man was eventually convinced to go to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The identity of the third man is unknown.

The suspect remains in police custody.
