Local MP Norman Baker attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of 33 new affordable homes for rent and shared ownership.
He was joined by Raglan Housing Chief Executive Nick Harris and Raglan Chair George Blunden at the launch of The Sidings, in Lynholm Road, Polegate.
Raglan has been working in partnership with Wealden District Council, regional contractors Westridge Construction and the Homes and Communities Agency to deliver the distinctive and stylish new £3.7 million affordable housing development which offers a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom properties.
Conveniently located close to local shops, schools and public transport, The Sidings provides 13 homes for rent and 20 for shared ownership for local people in the area.
These include nine one-bedroom flats and four three-bedroom houses for affordable rent, and 12 two-bedroom houses and eight three-bedroom houses for shared ownership.
The highly insulated homes, with gas central heating, have been designed to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 efficiency-rating to reduce energy emissions and help keep residents’ energy bills and running costs down. A key feature of the development is its communal outdoor green space which has been designed for residents’ recreation, relaxation and enjoyment.
The open space provides a themed play area for children, a wetland habitat and a nature area with trees linked by winding footpaths.
Raglan financed the development with £489,120 funding support from the Homes and Communities Agency.
Mr Baker said, “I am delighted to have been able to attend the ribbon-cutting for these new well-designed and attractive local houses in Polegate.
“I welcome the provision and support from Raglan Housing in providing 33 homes for local people and families. It is great to see properties for rent and shared ownership to help house local people and get them on to the property ladder.”
Raglan currently owns and manages around 180 properties across the Wealden District.
