Acclaimed troupe to return

A THEATRE company that earned rave reviews for a production in Eastbourne last year is returning – with a new play exploring a horrifying contemporary theme.

Southampton's Nuffield company is back at the Under Ground Theatre on June 20 (7.30pm), addressing the issue, increasingly in the news, of 'honour killings' – where a family insist on the death of one of their members to atone for what they see as the shame that she or he has brought upon them.

In Peeler, by Maggie Nevill and directed by Patrick Sandford, Aisha waits behind 20 door-bolts and a sealed letterbox for the killer she knows will inevitably find her.

But, when the meter man comes, she invites him in, pays him to stay and asks him to help chop the onions.

Her reason is that, whatever the views of her family, Aisha does not feel ashamed – and she is determined to be heard before she dies.

Tickets cost 8, call 737677 or buy them from the Tourist Information Centre.
