STAGECOACH, the national bus operator which took over Eastbourne Buses in a multi- million pound deal last month, announced yesterday (Thursday) it had bought part of Cavendish-Renown.

The national bus operator acquired the business of Cavendish Motor Services Ltd for an undisclosed sum. Renown Coaches Ltd which is based in Bexhill will continue trading.
Rumours that Cavendish, the main competitor of Eastbourne Buses, was being sold were confirmed yesterday lunchtime as the Herald went to press.
A Stagecoach spokesperson said, "Cavendish operates 28 buses from its depot at Polegate and has 65 employees. It will become part of our East Kent and East Sussex company led by managing director Phil Medlicott.
"We would like to welcome Cavendish staff to Stagecoach. "We look forward to improving services for our customers in the area and attracting more people to greener, smarter bus travel.
"Return, day, week and period tickets for both Cavendish and our recently acquired Eastbourne Buses services will be interchangeable to give our passengers an immediate benefit."

I did wonder what the fate of Cavendish would be once Stagecoach moved into Eastbourne. Cavendish (unlike Eastbourne Buses) run a good service, mainly because of their town centre circulars. Obviously if Stagecoach were to build on this it would compete directly with Cavendish, so I'm not totally surprised (just surprised how quickly it's happened, but glad that at least C-R have got some money out of the deal instead of being pushed out of business)

I have no doubt that Eastbourne will soon be reduced to the sort of "sub-service" that is imposed on Hastings. Now that the opposition hase been "taken out" fares will rise and service will decline. Disaster!!

Am I living in a differnt Eastbourne to you Mugsborough !!. We have a 'sub-service' now. You cant get anywhere in the evening or on Sundays unless you live on the Number 1 bus route. On the plus side Maybe now the Real Time information screens in Pevensey Bay will actually be used for showing bus information and not just used as very expensive seagull perches.
