Sayerland Lane in Polegate is being increasingly used by large six-wheelers using the lane as a 'rat run' from Polegate to Hailsham and Stone Cross.
County councillor Roy Martin said a number of residents have complained to him about large vehicle
s getting stuck and damaging verges.
He added, "It seems that the sat navs fitted to lorries think they are in small cars so are quite happy to direct their drivers on to very narrow country lanes quite unsuitable for a vehicle of that size.
"It seems the drivers just blindly follow their instructions."
Cllr Martin has spoken to highways officers at the county council and together they have started the long process of bringing in weight restrictions for vehicles using the lane to stop this happening.
He added "If any other resident has a similar problem in their roads I hope they will let me know so I can take action."
A county council spokesperson said, "We are also working with Ordnance Survey on the issue of large articulated lorries using inappropriate routes unnecessarily.
"It is hoped that OS will soon be able to work with companies that manufacture sat nav systems to address this problem."
