Volunteers from Eastbourne's RNLI all-weather lifeboat crew have this afternoon been taking part in a search for a fisherman who went overboard.
The crew were alerted by Dover Coastguard of the incident, approximately seventeen miles south of Peacehaven, East Sussex, at around 12.30pm.

The lifeboat volunteers were assisted by colleagues from the Newhaven RNLI lifeboat and the coastguard helicopter in the search for the man who went over board a Belgian trawler.

A man's boady was retrieved by the crew of the Eastbourne all-weather lifeboart and transferred to the coastguard helicopter for passage to a Brighton hospital.

The lifeboat was then stood down and returned to station (an approximately 30 mile round trip).

The body is thought to be that of the captain of the Belgian vessel Zilmereeuw.

The skipper was said to have last been seen whilst the rest of the five crew members were having lunch.

A formal identification has yet to take place.
