STRIKING postal workers were given support from residents who signed a petition in Eastbourne.
Some 100 members signed a petition in three hours in Terminus Road.
The petition was set up by the People's Thinkers' Forum and condemned the decision by the Royal Mail to cut jobs, pay and services in what it calls an 'already under-staffed, low wage public service'.
Amjad Mirza, spokesperson for the Eastbourne PFT, said, "We strongly oppose the privatisation of the Royal Mail in the name of modernisation, and request the Government to pour more money and resources into the Royal Mail in order to bring it up to date with the demands of modern times."
The group also held a march through the town centre.
It is asking for more volunteers to make contact to establish a support network in East Sussex and anyone interested should call 07909495565 or via email dr_amjad_mirza@hotmail.com
