HIS LOVE life may have been in turmoil but that didn't stop popular Liberal Democrat MP and television presenter Lembit Opik letting his hair down at a fundraising dinner in Eastbourne last week.
The MP, reportedly dumped by his Cheeky Girl fiancee Gabriela Irimia last week, was the guest speaker at a dinner organised by Sovereign Liberal Democrats and held at the Waterside Restaurant.

The party's spokesman on housing entertained guests with an after dinner speech before answering questions.

Among those at the event were Sovereign ward councillors Michael Bloom, Susan Morris and Margaret Salsbury, Eastbourne Borough Council leader David Tutt and the party's parliamentary candidate, Stephen Lloyd.

Mr Opik left the seafront hotel to take the train back to London and days later national newspapers reported he and his fiancee had split.

The couple got engaged three months ago, but Gabriela is now refusing to see the politician or take his calls after a series of arguments, according to reports.

How can any local political party hope to be taken seriously when they associate with this standing joke of a man?.....I bet the local LibDems made sure Mr Opik had access to a parking space.
