THE SEARCH is on for more foster carers in East Sussex with an event in May aimed at attracting local people into fostering.
The Fostering Open Evening event in Eastbourne on May 14 has been organised by East Sussex County Council's Fostering Service.
The informal event has been timed to coincide with the UK campaign, Foster Care Fortnight, which runs from May 12.
At the
events anyone who has any questions about fostering or who is considering becoming a foster carer will have the chance to speak first hand to foster carers about their experiences as well as staff from the council's fostering service.
The Fostering Service is always looking for new foster carers in East Sussex – particularly those who might be interested in looking after older children aged 10+ and brother and sister groups.
More than 360 children are cared for by foster carers for East Sussex County Council Children's Services and foster carers have a vital role in giving children and young people the opportunities they need to achieve and enjoy their lives.
Councillor Meg Stroude, lead cabinet member for children and families, said, "Our foster carers do an absolutely brilliant job looking after children who need love and a home.
"Anyone can apply to become a foster carer as long as they have the skills, experience and space needed to look after children.
"Foster carers can be of all ages, backgrounds and cultures.
"I would encourage anyone who has ever thought about fostering to come along to one of these events.
"They will be extremely informal and they'll be able to get a range of information from our staff about what is involved, including the training and support they would receive, and also from foster carers themselves."
The Fostering Open Evening will both be between 7-9pm at Chatsworth Hotel.
