MORE than 40 years after being hit by a drunk driver in his home town of Middlesbrough, a Langney resident has described his shock at being run over for a second time, leading to almost a week in hospital.
Kevan Llewellyn, 48, was returning DVDs to Blockbuster video store at the Crumbles after finishing work as a nurse at the Department of Psychiatry when he was struck by an 89-year-old motorist.

He suffered a broken tibia, broken fibia and crushed ankle in the incident, which happened on Wednesday November 5 at around 3.30pm, and will be off work for 12 weeks.

He said, "I had to take some DVDs back and thought I would take my two dogs out for a walk before fireworks night began. I walked over (to the Waterfront side of Harbour roundabout], waited at the side of the road and looked right but there was nothing coming.

"I looked left and saw a car with a lady waving me across. I started to cross when from nowhere this car came and ploughed into me in the middle of the road."

His dogs, a chihuahua/yorkie cross and a miniature yorkie, scattered, one running into the nearby ARC clean car centre and one managing to reach his home, followed by a passer-by who saw the accident.

The elderly motorist went on to pull up in the car park and go into Asda, emerging with a trolley of shopping, seemingly unaware of what had happened.

Kevan said, "When I was two-and-a-half, I was hit by a drunk driver in Middlesbrough and left with paralysis down my left side. My right side was my good side until now.

"You would not expect, 40 years later, for it to happen again."

A spokesman for Sussex Police said the motorist involved in the collision had surrendered his driving licence and would not face court.
