EASTBOURNE skater Max Freeman put his talents to the test with a 24-hour skating relay in Le Mans.
Max, 18, participates in the London Wednesday night street skates and was invited by the London e2xn team to join them in France.
He had never tried speed skating before, but found he was a natural. Each lap was 4.5km and he was pleased with his fastest lap of 9.04 minutes.
Max was a valuable member of his team which came 36th out of 465 that competed in the race, which was filmed by a French TV company.
In spite of returning home with a couple of very large and painful blisters, Max said speed skating is definitely an area of skating he would like to become more involved in.
The adrenalin rush of skating at speed so impressed Max that a fellow competitor commented, 'Max was the only person of about 4,000 who was getting more enthusiastic about doing laps as time passed.'
Max is better known for his freestyle skating at the Skate events held in Eastbourne each summer.
He will be appearing with skating partner Danny Hazelgrove in Skate2003 on Saturday July 26 and Sunday July 27.
