THE COUNCIL is planning to extend its current fortnightly 'green box' recycling collection to include plastic bottles.

The scheme will go before the Cabinet on May 28 for a final decision.
The new service is expected to be introduced in three phases between July and September by SITA, the council's refuse collection contractor.
It will enable residents to put out their glass bottles, newspaper and magazines, cans, textiles and plastic bottles stamped with Type 1 or 2 on the base for fortnightly collection.
Councillor Troy Tester, responsible for special projects, said, "This is a major step forward in our efforts to encourage residents to recycle more.
"There is no excuse now for households not to recycle.
"This really is excellent news and shows that we do listen to residents at their door-steps; and there is much more good news to come with the introduction of the free green garden waste collection service early in 2009."
