THE EAST Dean parents of a woman killed in the 2005 terrorist bomb blast in Egypt are hopeful a new ruling will be passed in Parliament this week to give British victims abroad the same rights as those caught up in attacks on UK soil.
Since their daughter Annalie Vickers was killed in the terrorist attack, John and Angela Corke have pushed for compensation and have lobbied politicians to support their cause.

They want the same long-term financial and emotional support to be given to British victims of terror attacks abroad as those received by victims in this country.

Their cause has been taken up by the organisation Liberty and MPs and it is hoped an amendment to the Counter Terrorism Bill was due to be debated by a Parliament committee yesterday (Thursday).

Annalie, 31, known to friends and family as Ali, was on a diving holiday in Sharm el Sheikh when the resort was hit by a terrorist attack.

John Corke told the Herald, "The wheels of government turn slowly but there now appears to be real hope on the horizon of getting a Bill for compensation for victims of terrorism through Parliament.

"We are fortunate that Liberty has now adopted this Bill and with that weight behind it we are hopeful of some real progress. We are very much hoping for a positive outcome."

Eastbourne MP Nigel Waterson is not on the relevant committee which was due to debate the amendment but said he hoped the government would change its policy.

"I have long supported the Corkes' campaign for proper help and compensation for the families of victims of terrorist attacks abroad," said Mr Waterson.

"It is high time the government came up with some constructive proposals to improve the current system."

Mr and Mrs Corke have been filming recently with and ITV crew for a programme on the subject of the shortcomings of travel insurance, Holidays Uncovered, which is due to be screened on ITV tonight (Friday) at 8pm.
