A meeting at a social club in London led to 60 years of happy marriage for an Eastbourne couple.
Dennis and Pam Cook celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary with a chartered boat trip for themselves and other family members to the Isle of Wight for Sunday lunch.

The couple, of Queens Crescent, met in 1939 when Dennis was 18 and Pam was 15. They started courting before the war intervened.

During the war, Dennis went into service and was posted to North Africa, Italy and Austria while Pam entertained the troops.

After the war ended, the young couple married at St Clements Church in Fulham on March 27 1948.

They then moved to Eastbourne for five years before moving back to London when Dennis was offered a job there.

The couple retired in Eastbourne in 1988 and have lived here ever since.

They have a son and daughter and six grandchildren.

Dennis said the secret to a long, happy marriage is, "To be tolerant of each other but remain individuals."

Dennis, 86 and Pam, 83, also received a telegram from the Queen congratulating them on their milestone anniversary.
