AN EASTBOURNE photographer has died suddenly.
Eldon Johnson died at Eastbourne District General Hospital on May 1 after a short illness. He was 56.
This week friends and family paid tribute to Eldon, who worked as a freelance photographer for the Eastbourne Gazette and Herald and also as a commercial photographer.
His lifelong friend Terry Hutchinson said, "Eldon was a pure gentleman. He was a very popular guy who would do anything for anybody. He was also the life and soul of any party and we will all really miss him."
Born in Eastbourne, Eldon was one of five children and grew up in Lottbridge Drive.
He attended Hampden Park infants, Highfield and Hampden Park secondary schools where his interest in photography began.
After leaving school he worked as a commercial photographer in Eastbourne with Peter Goldsmith and spent a number of years working as a photographer on cruise ships.
He joined the former Eagle newspaper in Eastbourne and also worked on the Eastbourne News and Eastbourne Citizen before moving to the Sussex Express and the Mid-Sussex Times.
In recent years he worked at Westmin Photographic in South Street and also as a wedding photographer.
He worked for the Eastbourne Gazette and Herald at weekends.
A regular at the Marine public house in Seaside, Eldon's hobbies included sailing, socialising and his prized possession, his Porsche.
Eldon's funeral is to be held at 1pm on Monday May 19 at Eastbourne Crematorium.

Eldon's family is urging anyone who may have booked him to photograph their wedding to contact Stephen Rimmer Solicitors on Eastbourne 644222.
