A 25-YEAR-OLD carpenter accused of stealing £4,000 and staying in local hotels with no money to pay for the rooms has been remanded in custody.

Michael Beirne, of Etchingham Road, Eastbourne, appeared before the town's magistrates on Friday and pleaded not guilty to the three charges against him.
The defendant is alleged to have stolen £4,000 cash from a safe in a bed and breakfast on March 19.
He is also accused of booking a room at The Congress Hotel and using the telephone and bar with no means to pay for the services on May 3.
Beirne faces a similar charge at New Wilmington Hotel on May 6.
Prosecutor Helen Constantinou told magistrates the matters were not suitable for trial at the magistrates court and the case should be committed to the Crown Court.
Magistrates adjourned for committal papers to be prepared and the defendant was remanded in custody until his next court hearing.
Beirne will reappear at Hastings Magistrates Court via videolink on May 16.
