A VISUALLY impaired man has criticised Eastbourne bus drivers for ignoring him.
Paul Millross, 35, had to walk the extra distance after he rang the bell for the bus to stop and it kept going.
Mr Millross was travelling from Hampden Park to Cavendish Place. He said, "I pressed the bell but the driver just carried on so I had to
walk the extra distance. He just ignored the bell so why on earth do they have a bell?
"I do not feel safe on the blue buses. I would rather walk from Hampden Park into town."
He said he had rung the bell in plenty of time and said Eastbourne Buses fall far short of the Renown Cavendish Motor Company ones.
He added, "Drivers do not wait for you to be sat down. I've bumped into bars trying to get into a seat.
"Maybe an idea is to blindfold the bus drivers and make them walk up
the bus to find a seat. They pull off and you fall forward and then they stop at the traffic lights and brake hard and you fall backwards."
Steve Barnett, managing director of Eastbourne Buses, said, "Eastbourne Buses dealt with this issue directly with the customer.
"With regards to his additional comment about the bus moving off before he has had the chance to find a seat, we have a strict policy on this. We will take this opportunity to reinforce the message to drivers that buses must not move off before customers are seated."
But Mr Millross is not convinced things will change and thinks an
accident is waiting to happen. He said, "I accept the apology but it was a complete waste of time. Someone is going to have a serious accident. I think it is appalling to be transporting passengers and doing this."
