A GLOBAL Young Leader travelling to Washington to visit the World Bank, United Nations and IMF is to be sponsored by Eastbourne's English-Speaking Union (ESU).
James Cottam is one of the students chosen to represent the UK at the Global Young Leaders Conference next summer.
An economics student from Chertsey, he became involved with the international educational charity's Eastbourne branch through its youth president, Will Glover.
Mr Glover said, "Education, education, education is certainly the charity's mantra and James Cottam is the latest in a long line of worthy recipients of this organisation's patronage."
The 18-year-old recipient of the scholarship funding will next year give Eastbourne ESU's Logie Baird lecture on education.
He is one of a busload of students from St George's College in Weybridge who attended an ESU Thanksgiving supper at Royal Eastbourne Golf Club to hear a speech by the chairman of the Muslim Festivals of Britain, Raficq Abdulla.
