A GOOD NEIGHBOUR IS always good to have so let me invite you to meet one who really helps out in the villages of Pevensey Bay, Pevensey and Westham.

It is the Rover 6, which is a public transport service that can be booked door to door and runs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each week.

Like a 'good neighbour' it picks up and sets down passengers at most addresses in Westham and Pevensey parishes on its way and at stops on the route outside the parishes.

To book the Rover phone 0845 606 6951 the day before you travel.

Its companion service the Local Shopper (46), also a minibus, runs on Saturday, a regular route-based service, no need to book. It connects Beachlands, Westham, Langney Shops and Pevensey Bay. It is very popular with local people and may be quite full. Standing is not allowed.

Westham and Pevensey Local Transport Partnership has been working in conjunction with Cuckmere Community Bus since last February and makes the following plea for help: more volunteers are needed, including minibus drivers and people to join its famous team (locally known as the 'phoneys') who take bookings over the phone.

Training is given for either job and any costs covered. Flexible duty rotas are arranged each month so you can take a holiday. If you are interested in joining a team for one of these jobs, call Michael Nash on 01323 760496 or Joyce Richards on 01323 763344 to find out more.

ON SATURDAY, APRIL 25 in Westham Village Hall, the Pevensey Bay and District Flower Club is holding its annual coffee morning from 10am to midday.

Why not go along and give the event your support – the club, in turn, supports local charities.

There will be lots of interesting stalls with something for everyone.

Admission is 50p, which includes refreshments.

HAVE YOU YET HAD the chance to visit the new community market that is held on the first and third Fridays of each month from 9am to midday?

It takes place in St Luke's Church Community Centre, with some stalls outside.

There is much on offer – locally produced meats, cheeses (a really good selection with the chance to taste before you buy), Stone Cross Mill has a stall there, selling stone- ground flour and souvenirs, a good selection of hand-made soaps and outside there is a stall selling fruit and vegetables.

There are chairs and tables for you to sit at and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

It is nice to see so much local fresh produce together, knowing that it had not had to travel far.

STONE CROSS MILL WILL be open over the Easter weekend on both Sunday and Monday.

Guided tours of the Mill are available and entrance is free but there is no objections to a donation!

On the Monday, there will be an Easter bonnet competition, open to all ages, boys and girls, men or women. Prizes for the best hat in each category. The mill will be open from 2pm until 5pm, and the judging will be at 3pm.

HANKHAM SCHOOL HELD a very successful Easter fair and is pleased to be able to say that a total of 620 was raised by the Friends towards future projects.

I went along and everybody seemed to be having a good time. The children's entries of Easter arrangements were really superb – the papier mache rabbit took my fancy, it was lovely.

It should also be mentioned that Hankham School has once again won the local schools' Eastbourne In Bloom competition. The challenge was to design a garden on the theme of Seaside In Bloom. The team did a fabulous job and were an absolute credit to the school.

CHURCH SERVICES OVER EASTER at St Luke's Church, Stone Cross, are as follows:

On Maundy Thursday at 7.30pm there will be a Sung Mass, together with the Reception of the Oils, Foot Washing, stripping of the altars, followed by the solemn watch in the Garden of Gethsemane until midnight.

There will be a Stations of the Cross Mass on Good Friday, with a Good Friday Liturgy at 3pm.

Easter Sunday is on April 12 and services start at 5.15am with the Easter Vigil and Dawn Mass, followed by a Parish Breakfast, with a Sung Parish Mass at 10.30am. All are welcome to any of the services.
