DUE TO THE AMOUNT of news contained in last week's Gazette, only half of the report on the last meeting of Westham Parish Council was reported on, so it is continued here.
Cllr Nash gave an update on the emergency plan and told the meeting that the pocket version of contact numbers is at the printers.
He had attended a flood awareness meeting in Pevensey Bay and is now more aware of the dangers of flooding. Together with Cllr Marshall, he had attended an Environment Agency meeting where maps were displayed showing the areas of flooding. The beach replenishment programme is going well. He also said that new residents received a welcome pack.
Cllr B Molog asked councillors to take another look at the draft business plan and inform her of any changes they consider might be needed so that the plan can be brought as a final draft to the May full council meeting.
Cllr Picton informed the meeting that June 5, 2010 appeared to be the best date for holding the proposed annual village event and that he intended to call a meeting of the sub-committee later this month.
He also informed the meeting that he intended to approach at least two local commercial car firms about displaying and sponsorship.
CLLR TOOLEY EXPLAINED that a draft contract had been sent to allotment holders for their comments should the council decide to introduce a future contract.
The clerk was asked to obtain prices for the provision of three 50-60cm-wide mock cannon balls which will be placed on the corner of the grassed area on which the cannon is sited to prevent damage to this area by inconsiderate parking.
He also explained that the Adur Park Working Party would like to encourage the use of the area and suggested that a small car park might help increase usage – a local contractor had been consulted for advice. Councillors agreed to spend 1,000 on Cad and level drawings and for the drawings to be available to the parish council.
Councillors resolved to accept the price from Frontier Fencing for 2,150 to replace the fence around Westham Pond.
The meeting also agreed to erect three further 'No Cold Calling' signs around Hankham as cold calling was continuing in that village. However, the request to place signs at the entrance to Foxes Hollow was turned down as this area is already covered by the Stone Cross signs.
IT WAS AGREED THAT the clerk should obtain prices for the refurbishment of the war memorial in the grounds of St Luke's Church.
The clerk asked that consideration should be given to replacing the wood chippings under the play parks equipment with a more springy tarmac-like surface. She was asked to investigate RoSPA recommendations and possibly look at Nidagravel-type surfaces.
The council commented favourably on the parish visits.
Councillors asked the clerk to get itemised prices from the contractor for the works highlighted in the tree report.
The clerk said Wealden was no longer able to carry out the additional litter-picking, which is currently paid for by the parish council. She suggested that councillors might like to consider employing someone directly and Wealden would provide the health and safety equipment and dispose of the litter. Councillors decided that before they pursue this route the clerk should tries to find a contractor to do it instead.
Cllr Tooley suggested Play England might donate money for new play equipment in Adur Park.
The clerk confirmed that the invitations to the Quality Parish Presentation Evening had been sent out. Councillors agreed to combine this with the annual parish meeting and provide catering up to 7 per head and a medium-price sparkling wine and orange juice to toast.

ALONG WITH THE OTHER schools in the area, Hankham School is continuing to collect the schools vouchers being issued by Tesco and Sainsbury's.
Making use of these vouchers can save all schools quite a considerable amount of money, so please take them when they are offered to you and pass them on to the school of your choice.
HANKHAM SCHOOL COUNCIL went to Uckfield to visit the Wealden Recycling Centre and see what happens to the material that is collected at the school.
The school saves paper, cardboard, foil, printer inks and stamps, much of which goes to Uckfield for recycling. The school council has been doing work on sustainable schools and was eager to find out how it could do more to save energy and be less wasteful.
It was a very interesting visit and the council was able to report back to the school in assembly and do its part in keeping the green agenda high on its priority list.
The school would like to thank Julie and Barry who were their guides for the morning and who were so kind and helpful to the children.
