THE ACTIVITY MORNING HELD in the Amenity Hall in Stone Cross on Thursday, February 19 proved to be a great success.

Although final numbers attending are not know yet, the event proved very popular and apparently worn out many of the children in the parish.

THERE IS A BRANCH of the Civil Service Motoring Club in the area which meets ion the 3rd Tuesday of each month in the Cooden Beach Hotel, starting at 7.30 pm. All ex-members of the Civil Service are entitled to join and attend these meetings. The last one was held on Tuesday February 17 and members enjoyed a talk by Alan Fuller on the subject of A Policeman's Lot…" a talk which was postponed from January due to Alan's illness. The talk turned out to be more of a cosy fireside chat as Alan related some of his experiences, both in the Birmingham police force, periods with the traffic police and CID prior to moving to this area (he already had connections in the Bexhill area). In total Alan spent more than 30 years with the police and when he retired he continued in a similar vein as he then worked as a Rother Planning Enforcement Officer. The talk was most enjoyable. The next meeting is on Tuesday, March 17, when after the all important AGM, Say Cheese will be in attendance (and you get to taste some of their products). For further information, please contact the secretary on 01323 434496 – members of the club already come from Eastbourne, Stone Cross, Bexhill and Hastings.

Looking ahead, Hankham School will be holding their Easter Fair on Saturday March 28 in the School from 10 am to 12 midday – it is probable that the other two school sin the parish will also be holding Ester Fairs, but details are not yet to hand.

THE COACH TRIP ORGANISED to Zuidlaren in northern Holland arranged for Sunday June 20, has, due to unforeseen circumstances, had to be re-arranged for a date in May: either May 17 or 24: further details will be in next week's article.

A NEW COMMUNITY MARKET is planned for Stone Cross, starting on Friday March 20. To be held at St Luke's Parish Centre from 9am to noon on the first and third Fridays of the month, the market aims to provide fresh local produce and hence reduce 'food miles'. "We will consider any kind of stall, but are particularly looking for food and crafts that have been produced within a 10 mile radius of Stone Cross", said Steve Carpenter, the market organiser. The organisers are delighted when Friday Street Farmers were the first producers to sign up: they will be providing organic beef, lamb, chicken and eggs. Anyone wishing to apply for a stall should contact Steve Carpenter, c/o St Luke's Parish Centre, telephone either 767020 or 762254 or e.mail Steve on market@stone-cross.info. Watch for the notices around the area.
