AN EASTBOURNE hotelier was ordered to haul down his white lion statues after losing a planning appeal.

Sheikh Abid Gulzar, who runs the Albany Lions Hotel, was told to remove the lions on his land on the Pevensey Levels. Mr Gulzar’s retrospective planning permission was turned down by Wealden District Council.

PATIENTS at Eastbourne DGH were able to catch up on local news when the Gazette launched its campaign to deliver free copies to hospital beds.

Papers for Patients, piloted in London, saw 500 copies of the Gazette, complete with the newspaper’s new puzzle section, delivered to patients’ bedsides every week.

Editor-in-chief Keith Ridley said, “The patients have been really happy to have them delivered to their bedside.”
