A PLEA to the younger people in our communities: the newly-created East Sussex YouthBank has made funds available to help young people improve youth activities, facilities and their communities.
Youngsters are being encouraged to put forward their ideas and bid for funding. A panel of young people will decide which projects should get the cash and then the young people themselves participate in the projects.
All young people aged 13 to 19 living in the county can be considered for YouthBank funding. They simply have to complete the form and make sure their application is supported by an adult from an affiliated youth or community organisation.
The YouthBank money, which is available for the next two years, is from the government's Youth Opportunity Fund (YOF), which is administered by Wealden District Council.
The plan is to encourage young people to get more involved in YouthBank and take control of its running in their local areas.
Over the past three years the YOF has handed out more than 1.5m in grants to more than 500 groups, which have benefited more than 10,000 young people across the county.
More information on YouthBank is available on the council's website or by contacting Tracey Johnson, YouthBank co-ordinator, at youthbank@eastsussex.gov.uk

The last meeting was held on Tuesday, April 21 and after opening the meeting chairman Des Hall presented a cheque for 250 to Chris Carey from Sussex Air Ambulance, this being the income from the charity raffles during the past six months.
Chris thanked the club for the donation and said the Air Ambulance received no government aid, relying entirely on support from the public.
The chairman reminded the meeting that the club's charity for the next 12 months was Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and he introduced Sue Pellow the charity's south- east area fundraiser, together with Eileen Fuller and her hearing dog, Kai.
Sue gave a short history of the charity, explaining how it had been formed and what its aims were. She went on to explain how hearing dogs were trained and how they were able to make such a vast difference to the people they were allocated to.
Eileen said Kai had changed her life completely. With the onset of profound deafness she had become very nervous but with Kai at her side she was able to lead a fairly normal life.
There are approximately 850 dogs now working with deaf people. Further information about the charity can be obtained at www.hearingdogs.org.uk

THE NEXT meeting of Westham Parish Council will take place on Monday, May 18 and will be held in the Amenity Hall, Stone Cross School.

This will be followed on Wednesday, May 20 when the annual parish meeting is held, also in the Amenity Hall at 7.30pm, when organisations within the parish are asked to attend to give a report on what has happened over the past year.
ON TUESDAY, April 28 nine of the Year 4 and 5 children from Hankham School went to Hailsham Community College for a local schools' tennis skills festival in competition against other Hailsham schools.
The girls and boys demonstrated their developing tennis skills and great fun was had by all.
The team finished in a very good third place, So well done to Joshua, Hannah, Billy, Ella, Frazer, Ryan, Luke and Sebastien for their efforts and a big thank- you to Mr Lloyd for organising and supporting the children.
I WAS invited to attend the May Day Celebrations at Hankham School on Friday, May 8.
It was a fine afternoon, a bit breezy but the sun was shining as the children filed out from the school.
One of the teachers gave a potted history of the reason for such celebrations and as she told it the various children came out to act out their parts.
Bumble bees buzzed about as the morris dancers did their stuff, and the children on the maypole were excellent, winding in and out, up and down, as they circled it.
What was even more amazing was the ease with which they unwound the ribbons as though they did it every day of the year.
It was a really lovely afternoon, which both the children and audience enjoyed to the full. Well done to them all.
