Members of Hailsham Photographic Society celebrated 50 years of an annual event which showcases their work to music.

The Hailsham Photographic Society Colour Show is an audio-visual event for the public, and is generally held in March each year.

It aims to encourages members to produce sequences set to music with help from the group’s audio-visual team, while raising money for charity at the same time.

As a result of ticket sales, Hailsham mayor Jo Bentley passed on a cheque for £1,000 to Demelza Hospice Care For Children on behalf of the society.

More cash for the charity was raised during the Colour Show’s three performances. Eighty pence in every pound goes straight Demelza’s direct care programme.

Winner of the Best Audiovisual was John Watson, with The Bluebell Walk at Arlington. He also won Best Soundtrack. Commentary was by Carolyn McCutchan and the music was Serenade Lyrique (melody) by Edward Elgar.

In second place was Treasures In Memoriam by John Deller LRPS.

Third place – A New Way Of Shopping – was a joint effort by Jean Mills and Lynette Benton LRPS.

Highly Commended Awards went to Ant Sherwin for Twixt Heaven and Earth and Steve Nixon for All Things Bright and Beautiful.

Fiona Flower, spokesperson for Hailsham Photographic Society, said, “There was something for everyone – catchy music then soothing, sound effects from the natural world, stunning scenery, informative narration, abstracts, people, humour and a glimpse of history.

“One member of the audience who visited the show for the first time said, ‘I thought the Colour Show was absolutely fabulous. Everything about it was enjoyable and absorbing from start to finish. It sucked you in and demanded your attention’.

“Hailsham Photographic Society would like to thank everyone who attended the 50th anniversary of the Colour Show.”

The next chance to enjoy the creative talents of Hailsham Photographic Society will be at the group’s print exhibition. This runs from June 17-22 and will be at the Charles Hunt Centre, Hailsham.
